My name is Shulamis it means peace it is a Hebrew name. I was born and raised in Philadelphia, and I've been singing ever since I can remember. My family moved a lot so it's hard for me to claim one particular area of Philly so I claim it all. I have always been in love with music, so singing almost came like second nature. Performing and learning from other artists is an amazing experience if that truly is your passion. I've been listening to jazz ever since I was a child, so most of my singing techniques are derived from that. I used to only sing in my room, in front of family, or on my God mothers church choir always trying to find a new song to learn and conquer. I was Dorothy in a play at my middle school and I was on the choir. I tried the choir in ninth grade and then end up quitting because I didn't have the motivation to pursue my dreams at the time. I thought that I needed help to develop myself, and I thought my voice wasn't as good as others that I heard even though I was always told otherwise. After several years of fighting with myself I realized it was time to find me, and my first task was to show the world what I have to offer. I feel that my style is very unique even though I am inspired by so many people. I want my music to scream variety like jazz, r&b, neo-soul and whatever else is thrown at me because I never want to be restricted to a box. I want to live everyday to the fullest and give every tasks my all because if I don't believe and pursue my dreams who will? Outside of my love for music I enjoy normal things like the movies, bowling, pool, dancing, shopping and traveling. So I do normal things and go through normal things like everyone else, and I want people to feel like they know me through my music.
